We got our hands on a brand new car : the Fiat Bravo Sport. First off all we have got to thank AutoItalia for giving us the possibility to test this amazing car. And now to get to work!

I think that this fresh design is a step up for Fiat, a company known for its good but not cool cars. Now they can be proud because the Bravo is really COOL! You can find many influences in the design of this car but can you say for sure what car they come from? No, you can’t because let’s face it, the Bravo combines new design with old school aggressive lines so good that amazed me from the first moment. The slick body and the rims come together and form a perfect example of how a hot hatch should look like.
You might think that this car is just a boy racer’s wet dream and you’d be right. The 1.4 litre engine with its fixed geometry turbocharger develops 150 HP and 230 NM of torque. That’s impressive even for an Alfa Romeo. The acceleration is amazing: 0 to 100 kph in 8.2 seconds with a top speed of 212 kph. But I got to 220 kph so I’m not sure what Fiat are talking about. For all of you racing spirits who are thinking to buy this car, I have just one advise, don’t ever drop under 2000 rpm because you lose the turbo’s help. When I got the car from the dealer I noticed a small button that said SPORT and I decided to push it. And then all hell broke loose. 25 more NM and the car transformed into a monster. If I’m going to complain about something, it has to be the suspension, a little bit to hard for my taste. And when you engage the sport mode you really need soft suspension to keep you stuck to the tarmac.

The interior is very well put together and aims for a younger public, as well as the whole car. The red and black combination reminded me of a tuned car I once saw. The dash is driver oriented and enhances the sporty feel. And if you think that a sports car doesn’t care about the rear seats and its passengers, then you’d be mistaken. The leg room is incredible even in the back and the seats are comfortable.

Handling wise I can’t complain and the car pushes you to drive to the limit. That’s how I lost my driver’s licence (140 kph in a 80 kph zone). But I have to say that it was worth it! The Bravo is an amazing car and Fiat should keep up the good work.

After driving the Bravo I have another problem. I must admit that this car created a huge dilemma for me. The perfect car for me has always been the Golf GTI (looks, performance, practicality) and the Bravo shook my convictions from the ground. Can I even put these two cars in the same league? Will the Bravo ever be able to mach Golf’s prestige and notoriety? Will it ever be able to become a better car? Until I’ll test the Golf 5 GTI I’m afraid I can’t answer…maybe you could! We are waiting for some feedback.
