2003 Hummer H2 Recalled due to Windshield Wiper Problems

Losing visibility in a Hummer on a rainy day would probably be more dangerous to everyone else on the road than the driver in that gas guzzler.

General Motors is recalling 2003 H2s because of a potentially faulty windshield wiper/washer motor. If the motor is malfunctioning, your wipers may function only intermittently or may become inoperative. The recall will begin in November 2008 and affects approximately 13,358 vehicles.

Besides HUMMER, GM sells French factory, Other Assets

General Motors needs cash. And fast

The company confirmed that it intends to sell its Hummer brand but it will also sell its manufacturing operation in Strasbourg, France.

Both assets are said to be worth from $2 billion to $4 billion. The company also has hinted that it might be selling other assets in the future. Decisions on the sale of other assets could be announced as soon as the fourth quarter of this year.

Chinese Hummer H2 Recalled due to Possible Fires from Windshield Fluid

We whine and complain about China sending us faulty, toxic or inferior products, but are we really in any position to criticize?

General Motors has issued in China a recall for the Hummer H2s heated windshield washer fluid system that can short circuit and catch on fire. The same recall was issued in North America.

No, the parts involved were not manufactured in China.

Countdown to HUMMER Sale

Reports are coming in that General Motors is getting ready to sell its HUMMER brand.

Originally, Chief Operating Officer Fritz Henderson says he expects the brand to be gone out of the GM family by the end of this year or early next year. This is September. There’s only three more months left in the year after this. Considering how long it took for Ford to sell Jaguar and Land Rover to Tata, this would be an immediate dumping.

Several companies are said to be interested. But companies that have been reported to have stepped forward earlier no longer want to get involved.

Our take? Sales of HUMMERs are down a disturbing 40 percent this year and GM needs to erase some red ink as quickly as possible. No wonder GM wants to get rid of Hummer. A sale could give it money it needs to invest in other products.

Middle East Interested in Hummer?

Can General Motors actually dump its Hummer behemoth to someone, anyone? So far those who appeared to show interest have since backed away from the idea.

Except now.

Well it appears that so-called “interest” in the area of the Persian Gulf have their eyes on Hummer after all. Apparently, there are a couple of investors querying GM about the brand.

The Middle East could be a perfect fit for Hummer. Gas prices are very low -- heck they own the stuff. And Hummer still has a reputation as a status symbol there.

People who think that a Middle East company will ultimately buy Hummer also point to the fact that Mubadala Development Company in Abu Dhabi bought 5 percent of Ferrari in 2005 and Investment Dar of Kuwait bought half of Aston Martin last year.

Our take? Question is: If a Middle East company doesn’t buy Hummer, then who will?

Mahindra & Mahindra gives Thumbs Down to Hummer

General Motors has said that it has received inquiries from other auto makes about purchasing Hummer.

But no one is busting the doors down at the GM headquarters to get their hands on the expensive, gas-guzzling pachyderm. The latest to say "thanks , but no thanks" is Mahindra & Mahindra of India. You remember M&M, it was in the bidding for Land Rover and Jaguar along with domestic rival Tata.

Our take? So far GM's batting zero. Who are these so-called "interested party", GM?
