New Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S

With unique looks and tuned engine, Maserati's new Quattroporte Sport GT S is fastest Maserati saloon yet built.

With its unique headlamps, new look badges and ultra luxury interior, this is the car Maserati says will finally break BMW and Mercedes grip on the supersaloon class.

These are the first pictures of the new Quattroporte Sport GT S, a BMW M5 and Mercedes E63 AMG rival which will be unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show this week.

Offering a staggering 432bhp from its 4.7-litre V8 engine, the model also gets a quick shift gearbox, and revised suspension.

The car’s ride height has also been lowered, and there a new sports exhaust has been fitted that features a special set of valves that varies the system’s volume and pitch.

To help drivers immediately identify the newcomer, changes have also been made to the front grille – which is now the same design as that fitted to the recently launched Gran Turismo.

Door handles get a colour coded finish, while inside, driver and passengers are offered leather and alcantara trimmed bucket seats, plus composite detailing on the doors and dash.

Prices for the newcomer will be announced in the New Year.

Maserati GranTurismo MC: Race Car for the Rich

Street cars are cool. Race cars are cooler. An incredibly cool street car turned into a race car? That thud you just heard was our jaws hitting the floor.

The race ready Maserati GranTurismo MC in an achingly cool racing version of the sexy road going car. Power is only up 10 hp, but weight is down nearly a thousand pounds to 3090; it motor pulling a mere 7 lb/hp.

Not wanting to mess with a good thing, the looks are subtly changed, but there's an air of aggression that permeates through the form that is not present in the standard car. From the gaping front, lowered with big wheels stance, and massive rear diffuser, the car seems the perfect throwback to when GT race cars were actually just better road cars.

More importantly, the kind of cars you longed to own.

Our take? Unfortunately, if it ever does see the track it will be adorned with some horrible rear wing on the back to spoil its clean lines. As it is however, it may just be the best looking car available right now.

Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S to Debut at Frankfurt Show

Modena - 28 August 2007 - The car is the ultimate sporting expression of Maserati's flagship model.

Developed for those looking for an even sportier ride from a luxury berlina, the Quattroporte Sport GT S, equipped with an automatic 6-speed gearbox, stands out for its exceptional dynamic response and precise handling.

This result was obtained with the introduction of a single-calibration suspension system and a racing set up. The ride was stiffened by fitting new springs and dampers and by lowering the front end by 10mm and the rear by 25mm.

The Quattroporte Sport GT S boasts a unique braking system developed in collaboration with Brembo. This innovative technology uses composite cross-drilled discs, the first time such a set up has been employed on a road car.

Unlike traditional cast iron discs, composite cross-drilled discs are constructed from two materials, cast iron and aluminium. This optimises braking, improving performance in the most extreme conditions and providing greater resistance to fade even at the highest temperatures. The braking system on the Quattroporte Sport GT S employs new single-piece, six-piston callipers in the front and has tyres developed especially for this car (front 245/35-R20 and rear 295/30-R20). These larger tyres provide improved traction while the new tyre compound works with the brakes and suspension set-up to assure even better handling and a more involving drive.

The exterior of the Quattroporte Sport GT S has a distinctive and assertive look. The black chrome mesh grille is an element that distinguishes this sporting version of the Maserati Quattroporte. This design cue is echoed by the black coloured window frames and twin exhaust pipes and by the body coloured door handles.

The Quattroporte Sport GT S is fitted with eye-catching Dark Chrome 20", seven-spoked alloy wheels.

Even the choice of material for the interior of the Quattroporte Sport GT S reflects the car's dynamic character. Traditional Poltrona Frau leather has been combined with the Alcantara that covers the centre of the seats, door panels and the boss of the steering wheel. Maserati has previously used Alcantara for the interior of the competition versions of the Trofeo and the MC12.

The instrument panel is in carbon fibre with a new aluminium weave design. In the rear, comfort levels have been improved with the new, more body-hugging seats.

Possible Mistral heir to debut at Geneva Motor Show

Mobile Magazine managed to secure some sketches of the new Maserati Mistral concept.

The original Mistral first debuted in 1963, the replacement to the 3500 GT. Maserati would discontinue the model in 1970.

Details on what may be powering this new Mistral are even more sketchy than the pictures. Even the name is unknown: Maserati has not yet officially named this 2+2 sports car which is set to debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show.

Our take? Maserati has another winner here, whatever the name.
