Audi R8 GT

Audi dropped a very pleasant surprise on us this afternoon with the long-awaited announcement of the R8 GT.

The Audi R8 V10 was already one of our favorite sports cars in the world (sans the R-Tronic transmission) so how could you make it better? In the immortal words of Colin Chapman, "add lightness." But in a modern sports car required to meet rigorous safety standards, you can only go so far short of a complete redesign. Hence, the R8 GT's lightened chassis benefits from a power boost to boot.

The R8 GT swaps in a thinner glass windshield and polycarbonate rear windows and replaces many aluminum body panels with carbon fiber. By going over every part of the R8, Audi's engineers have carved a total of 220 pounds off the standard R8's curb weight.

The 5.2-liter V10 has been bumped from 525 horsepower to 560, topping its cousin, the Lamborghini Gallardo. The GT is only available with the aforementioned R-Tronic hydraulically actuated semi-automatic, and when pushed to its limit, the R8 GT is claimed to accelerate to 62 miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds and on to 124 mph in 10.6 seconds. The terminal velocity has been increased to 198.8 mph.

Only 333 examples of the R8 GT will be built and the price in Germany is €193,000 ($256,000 USD). No mention is made of U.S. availability, but we'd be surprised if Audi doesn't apportion a few for Stateside consumption. Full details in the press release after the break.

V8-powered Audi R8 Spyder

The Audi R8 Spyder was introduced at Frankfurt with a stonking V10 powertrain nestled snugly in its boot, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the righteous 525-horsepower mill will be the R8 droptop's only source of power. Our West Coast friends at Inside LIne insist that the more reasonable 4.2-liter V8 that powers the "base" R8 is going to be offered as well... eventually.

The availability of a V8-powered Spyder could drop the price of entry by $30,000 or more, and it could prove to be an attractive option to potential customers who are more interested in the R8 Spyder as a fashion statement than as a near-supercar with outstanding performance. IL estimates that a V8-powered, topless R8 could arrive in showrooms sometime next year.

Who knows, perhaps Audi will find it in its collective heart to utilize the updated, better-breathing 450-hp 4.2-liter that is scheduled to arrive under the bonnet of the RS5 – not a bad consolation prize for a luxury car buyer looking to become part of the 500 Horsepower Club. a palpable is the antidote for civilization.

Audi R8 V10 Unveiled

Audi's sensational V10-engined R8 has finally been unveiled.

Audi R8 V10

Audi has 10 new reasons to celebrate, and here’s why – it’s the R8 V10 supercar!

Making its debut at next month’s Detroit Motor Show, the fastest R8 yet shares its 5.2-litre V10 engine with the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and the wild R8 LMS GT3 racer. It produces 528bhp, and takes the flagship from 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds and on to a 196mph top speed.

Audi’s magnetic ride dampers come as standard and, as with the V8, you can choose a six-speed manual gearbox or an R tronic semi-auto. With the latter, the car returns 20.6mpg – only 0.1mpg less than the R8 V8. While it is similar to the V8 on the outside, the V10 has headlights which use LEDs for main and dipped beams – a world first – plus trademark daytime running lights. The front bumper also features fewer slats to improve air flow, and high-gloss black paint for the air intakes.

At the side are bigger slats, and the V10 will get 19-inch alloys as standard. Ceramic brakes are optional. The biggest changes are at the back, where there’s a new rear diffuser to generate more downforce, more gloss black paint and twin oval tailpipes to replace the V8 car’s quad chrome exhausts.

Inside are heated Nappa leather seats and a Bang and Olufsen stereo. The R8 V10 is set to cost £99,575 in manual trim and £104,665 with the R Tronic gearbox.

S5 blows its top

Audi has turned its sizzling coupé into a beautiful soft-top - and new supercharged four-seater promises more wind-in-the-hair thrills than A4 Cabriolet it replaces...

S5

The S5 Cabriolet is out in the open – and it’s shaping up as the only thing to be seen in next summer!

We have the first official pictures of Audi’s newcomer, which is grabbing all the headlines with its good looks and sporty proportions. It’s powered by the same 328bhp 3.0-litre supercharged V6 as the latest S4 – so this is one car with performance to match its style.

The S5 shuns the trend for folding hard-tops and sticks with a traditional fabric roof. Audi claims its triple-layer hood is lighter than a metal lid, yet equally refined at speed, and it folds away in 15 seconds. Additional sound deadening is available as an option – this aims to deliver wind noise on
a par with the fixed roof model.

There’s a generous 320 litres of boot space even with the roof stowed, and as it’s bigger than the A4 Cabriolet, it’s a genuine four-seater. The swooping shoulder line from the A5 coupé is immediately noticeable, providing the new car with a free-flowing silhouette.

But the trademark Audi grille, flanked by large air intakes and LED running lights, give the front end an aggressive look, while at the rear, quad exhausts hint at the car’s performance potential.

The S5 rides on 18-inch alloy wheels as standard, although buyers can also specify 19-inch or 20-inch rims.

Despite losing the roof, the car promises to deliver the razor-sharp driving experience Audi owners have become accustomed to. High-strength steels used in its construction, plus reinforcement at selected points on the chassis, ensure class-leading rigidity.

The S5’s blown V6 is hooked up to the quick-shifting S tronic twin-clutch transmission, which drives all four wheels via the quattro system.

There’s also a sport differential, which shuffles power between the rear wheels to provide it where there’s most grip. All this means the S5 should deliver huge entertainment from behind the wheel.

In addition, owners benefit from an advanced drive select system. This lets them adjust the throttle response, the ferocity of the gearchanges and the weight and feel of the steering. All of these functions can be tweaked through Audi’s new MMI cabin control set-up.

Dig deeper, and the S5 has more tricks up its sleeve. The leather seats feature a special layer of trim to reduce heat from the sun, while in cold weather, neck-level ducts in the seats provide a Mercedes-style ‘air scarf’ to keep occupants warm. What’s more, if the car senses that it’s about to roll, aluminium hoops shoot up behind the rear headrests for protection.

Prices for the A5 Cabriolet range will start at around £30,000 when it arrives in the second quarter of 2009. The S5 is expected to weigh in at £44,000.

Audi R8 LMS supercar revealed

The fastest Audi ever makes its debut at Essen Motor Show.

Audi R8 LMS

Strap yourselves in, the fastest-ever Audi R8 is ready to roar!

Last week we brought you spy shots of the harder, lighter version of the firm’s supercar at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany. Now it has been unveiled at the Essen Motor Show, the country’s premier motorsport expo. Called the R8 LMS, it will take the fight to the Porsche 911 and Aston Martin DBR9 on racetracks around Europe but, more importantly, it give us an exciting glimpse of the forthcoming flagship V10-engined R8, which is due in UK showrooms late 2009.

Audi’s motorsport division has made a series of tweaks to the standard car to ensure that the R8 LMS is the ultimate ‘off-the-shelf’ racer. But it’s not purely a track-based toy – thanks to homologation rules for the GT3 class, Audi is obliged to build a small run of road-legal models, too.

Visually, the LMS packs a punch even when standing still. The wide bodykit, ground-hugging front splitter and wild rear wing give the car a menacing appearance, but also serves to produce masses of downforce at speed.

It’s under the bonnet where this car really shines though. Gone is the 420bhp V8 from the road-going machine, and in its place is a high-revving 500bhp 5.2-litre V10 mated to a six-speed sequential box, operated via wheel-mounted paddles.

The hydraulics used in the gearbox are borrowed straight from Audi’s Le Mans 24 Hours-winning R10 prototype, so shifts should be virtually instant. And with a kerbweight of 1,250kg, it promises to deliver stunning performance – 0-60mph in less than four seconds and a top speed of well over 200mph.

Up to eight customer cars will compete in different European race series and at the Nürburgring 24 Hours. Audi Sport has developed a special endurance version of the R8 LMS for that event which comes with a 120-litre fuel tank.

The first customers are scheduled to take delivery of the new car next autumn. But dream racing cars don’t come cheap: the R8 LMS will set you back £206,000.

Audi Q5 2.0 TDI SE

Audi Q5
  • Rating:

With sales of big off-roaders diminishing, the German firm has picked a good time to launch a baby brother to the massive Q7.

Available to order now, there’s a choice of three engines – 2.0 and 3.0-litre TDI diesels and a 2.0-litre TFSI petrol. There’s the usual choice of SE or S-Line trim and the entry-level diesel comes as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox. Outside, Audi hasn’t taken any risks – you get the familiar grille and in profile it looks like a raised up A4 Avant, while at the back there are shades of the Q7.

The end result is a chunky well-proportioned car that Audi owners will feel very comfortable with. It’s a similar story inside – the A4-style cabin is classy and wonderfully put together. It’s features Audi’s MMI control system, an electric parking brake and an excellent seating position.

The loftier stance of the Q5 means visibility is great, and in the back the £170 optional sliding seat package allows the rear bench to split fold and slide back and forth independently. The 540-litre boot is bigger than an A4 Avant and while rear legroom isn’t huge the Q5 is practical enough to appeal to family buyers.

With the intention of making sure the Q5’s road manners are not compromised, the engine is mounted longitudinally and the Quattro 4x4 system is biased 40:60 in favour of the rear wheels. Body control is excellent and the quick steering means the Q5 turns in to corners with car-like accuracy and agility.

The 2.0-litre common rail diesel is smooth, punchy and refined too, and while most SUV owners will favour the optional automatic S tronic gearbox, the standard six-speed manual has a satisfying shift action. Add in excellent stability, strong brakes and a firm but well-damped ride and there’s little to fault about the Q5’s on road ability.

But despite Audi claiming that less than two per cent of owners head into the rough stuff it has hill descent control and an off-road setting for the traction control. And while it isn’t massively practical its combination of fine road manners, quality cabin and Audi style will surely make it a hit.

    Price: £29,950
    Engine: 2.0-litre, 4cyl turbo diesel, 168bhp
    0-60mph: 9.8seconds
    Top speed: 126mph
    Economy: 42.1mpg
    Co2: 175g/km
Equipment: Climate control, electric parking brake, leather seats, hill decent control, power fold mirrors, roof rails, parking sensors and six airbags.

Audi’s baby R8 ready to roll

German firm is readying a little brother to its world-beating supercar.

Audi R4

The project will produce a new platform to underpin Coupé and Roadster versions of the R4, and also provide the basis for the next Boxster and Cayman
Sports car fans are in for a real treat! Audi is planning a striking new mid-engined machine – the R4. The newcomer will be based on an entirely new platform and sit above the TT in Audi’s range, offering buyers a driver-focused two-seater with a starting price of around £35,000.

It’s the result of a rumoured joint venture with Porsche – so the project will produce a new platform to underpin Coupé and Roadster versions of the R4, and also provide the basis for the next Boxster and Cayman. It’s these core sellers in the Porsche line-up that the R4 will target.

Our exclusive picture shows that the new Audi takes much of its visual inspiration from the R8 supercar, with LED lights, deep air intakes and a sweeping profile. But this similarity is no coincidence. The Porsche joint venture is all part of Audi’s plan to launch a range of R-badged sports cars, which will follow in the wake of the range-topper.

These will include an R6 to rival Jaguar’s new E-Type replacement and the Porsche 911, plus an R10 model based on the V12 TDI R8 diesel concept. Of course, it’s not only Audi which will benefit. Porsche will be able to share Audi’s engines and reduce the costs associated with developing a new platform.

The upmarket sports car firm is keen to ensure it maintains its healthy profitability – a factor that has enabled it to take a majority share in Volkswagen – particularly in the current financial climate. While the two firms will work together to produce the new platform, the R4 and the next-generation Boxster/Cayman will be very different models. Keen to retain the DNA that’s made the TT and R8 so successful, bosses will give the Audi a body made from aluminium panels. It also gets quattro four-wheel drive with torque split 40:60 in favour of the rear wheels.

In addition, the newcomer benefits from adaptive magnetic dampers and Audi’s Drive Select system. The latter allows the driver to switch between several modes which tweak steering and throttle response. Power will come from the firm’s range of TFSI engines, with the entry-level model most likely to get a highly tuned 2.0-litre turbo. The new 335bhp 2.5-litre five-cylinder super and turbocharged unit lined up for the flagship TT RS will be available, too. There’s even the possibility that the R4 will be offered with a high-performance diesel and a petrol V6.

As for gearboxes, a six-speed manual transmission will be standard, with a seven-ratio S tronic twin-clutch semi-auto as an option. The R4 is some way off reaching showrooms, though. There are still plenty of loose ends to tie up with the mooted joint venture, and it remains to be seen which company will launch the new platform first. Considering Porsche’s increasing control of the VW Group, it may be that it gets to call the shots. If that’s the case, the R4 could arrive in around 2011, shortly after the Boxster and Cayman.

R10 is go, too

* Diesel R8 was revealed earlier this year. It will be badged R10 and fitted with a V12 TDI unit offering around 500bhp.

* Returning 25mpg and meeting Euro VI emissions regulations, the 190mph R10 will be an amazing all-rounder.

* Styling cues such as the huge air intakes at the rear and the glass roof could be carried over to its R4 baby brother.

Reborn ‘Quattro’ turns up the heat

All-new TT RS evokes memories of legendary coupe with five-cylinder turbo engine.

Audi TT RS

The ‘real’ Quattro is back! Auto Express has learned that Audi will equip its TT RS flagship with an all-new boosted five-cylinder engine, reviving memories of the original machine to wear the revered Quattro badge.

The news emerged after a letter intended to go to German Audi dealerships, confirming details about the hottest-ever TT, was leaked. In the document, it is confirmed that the RS will be powered by an all-new 2.5-litre super and turbocharged TFSI engine, with 335bhp and 450Nm of torque.

As a result, 0-60mph will take only 4.5 seconds, while top speed is limited to 155mph. And the TT RS will not only be extremely rapid, it will be economical, too, returning 28mpg. The newcomer also gets Audi’s quattro four-wheel drive, with 40:60 bias in favour of the rear wheels and a six-speed manual gearbox as standard.

As you can see from our spy shots, it will benefit from an aggressive bodykit as well. Sales of both the Coupé and Roadster versions will kick off next summer, with prices set to start from £45,000.

Audi S4 Avant

Best ever S4 arrives with a supercharged V6 and seven-speed gearbox.

Audi S4 Avant

  • Rating:

    Price: From £36,000 (est)
    Engine: 3.0-litre V6, supercharged
    Power: 328bhp
    Torque: 440Nm
    Transmission: Seven-speed dual-clutch manual, four-wheel drive
    0-62mph: 5.4 seconds
    Top speed: 155mph (limited)
    Economy: 29.4mpg
Equipment: 18-inch alloys, electric leather sports seats, xenon lights with LED daytime running lamps
    On sale: November

This is an S express with a difference. It has been 76 years since Audi last used a supercharged engine in one of its cars. Instead, it has favoured compact turbos for some its most famous sporting models, including the legendary Quattro coupé.

But the blower is back in fashion at Audi, and there’s one under the bonnet of the latest S4. The new 328bhp 3.0-litre V6 is smaller and slightly less powerful than the 339bhp 4.2-litre V8 of the previous S4, but more importantly, it packs more torque – another 30Nm at 440Nm. And with 90 per cent of that thrust available from 2,200rpm, it promises to be a responsive drive. On paper, the figures are certainly impressive, with a 0-60mph time of 5.4 seconds and a top speed limited to 155mph. Thanks to the engine’s smaller capacity, there are improvements in efficiency, too, so the new S4 returns 29.4mpg combined and emits 224g/km of CO2.

Once on the road, all thoughts of economy vanish as you explore the engine’s power. The quad exhaust pipes emit a pleasing growl as the rev counter sweeps around the dial, and that torque really makes itself known – no matter what gear you’re in. Only a faint whine from the supercharger reminds you how it manages this feat.

But this car is about so much more than just a big engine. For a start, the S4 is available with Audi’s new seven-speed S tronic dual clutch transmission, which debuted on the Q5 compact SUV (see Issue 1,025), as well as a bespoke six-speed manual. The company expects the former to be the biggest seller in the UK, and we can see why. Full throttle upshifts are executed quickly, while the downshifts are accompanied by a pleasing blip of the throttle to smooth out the changes. Steering wheel-mounted paddleshifters complete the set-up.

Of course, no performance Audi would be the same without a quattro four-wheel-drive system, and the S4’s is biased 40:60 front to rear. Also available as an option is Audi’s sport differential – part of the new Drive Select Adaptive Dynamics system. This varies the torque across the rear axle, so that the outer tyre can be supplied with more power to help push the car through a corner, giving better stability.

The device also allows users to select from Comfort, Auto and Dynamic modes, each of which alter steering feel, throttle response, suspension, gearchange and differential characteristics. On a damp track, Dynamic mode allows a certain amount of rear end slip that’s still safe and controlled. The S4’s lowered suspension set-up feels tight and sure-footed, while the uprated brakes prove reassuringly strong.

While the standard A4 is a handsome car, the flagship adds some trademark S-style muscle. There are aluminium-look mirror housings, 18-inch alloys, two pairs of chrome exhaust tips and subtle badging. Overall it looks purposeful, but restrained, particularly in Avant estate form driven here, although it may not be aggressive enough for some buyers.

The interior boasts supportive but comfortable bucket seats, a multifunction sports steering wheel, aluminium dash trim and S4 logos throughout. Optional extras include Audi parking assist, lane change assistant and a powerful Bang and Olufsen stereo. It all adds up to an extremely impressive package.

Audi Q7 VI2 TDI

Huge SUV gets world’s most powerful diesel

Audi Q7
  • Rating:

When it comes to performance diesels, Audi is king. Its R10 TDI sportscar is tearing up race tracks across the globe, while the R8 supercar will get V12 diesel power in 2010.

However, you won’t have to wait that long to get a first taste of the 6.0-litre powerplant, as it appears in the firm’s flagship Q7 SUV in January. That means the monster seven-seater not only has the biggest diesel engine available in a production car, but also the most powerful by some margin.

As well as using the R8’s motor, the Q7 benefits from technology found in the R10 Le Mans car. The performance statistics are as impressive as its heritage, too. The 6.0-litre V12 delivers 493bhp, and the torque output is an enormous 1,000Nm! These figures mean the two-and-a-half tonne SUV manages to accelerate from 0-62mph in 5.5 seconds – and it feels even faster than that!

Turn the key, and the V12 lets out a deep rumble comparable to a petrol V8. And with all 1,000Nm of torque available from as low as 1,750rpm, even the lightest prod of the accelerator results in instant thrust.

Due to the huge amount of power available, the needle of the rev counter seems to hit the limiter in no time, resulting in the need for constant gearchanges using the six-speed Tiptronic auto. The manic Q7 isn’t without its faults, though. Turning into corners with any speed betrays its weight, and grip suffers as a result.

The steering doesn’t inspire much confidence, either, as it lacks feel. The ride, however, is smooth and comfortable.

Inside, it’s hard to fault the luxurious cabin. The driving position is high, commanding and comfortable, with well placed switchgear and first-rate quality. All this luxury and performance comes at a premium, though. The V12 Q7 costs £96,295 – nearly twice the price of the V8 TDI model below it! It’ll certainly be exclusive, however, as Audi only plans to sell 40 in the UK.

Audi’s new baby steals the show

audi a1

The next chapter in Audi’s small car future has just been written. This sensational model is the new A1 Sportback – and it’s a five-door version of the German manufacturer’s forthcoming compact hatch.

The A1 was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year in the form of the three-door Metroproject Quattro. The wraps came off this more practical model at the Paris exhibition.

Together, the two concepts preview Audi’s forthcoming MINI rival, due on sale in the UK in 2010. And one thing is for sure: if this latest show car is anything to go by, customers are in for something special.

Taking the look of the Metroproject Quattro to new heights, the Sportback adds an extra pair of doors and a host of neat visual details. At the front is a set of adaptive LED headlights, which change their beam width and length according to how quickly the car is travelling.

The rear end features a split tailgate which has a drop-down glass panel and a vertically split screen, too. And the body itself is made from lightweight steel and carbon fibre composites. Under the bonnet is the most powerful incarnation yet of Audi’s 1.4-litre turbocharged TFSI unit, boasting 148bhp.

This is assisted by a 20kW electric motor which provides an extra 150Nm of torque. The hybrid set-up powers the front wheels only – unlike the all-wheel-drive A1 three-door – through a seven-speed S tronic double-clutch box.

Eco-friendliness is the buzz-word for the Sportback, as it also features a stop-start function and regenerative braking. In addition, it boasts Audi’s adjustable Drive Select system, which incorporates a special ‘efficiency’ mode.

Meanwhile, the satellite navigation even has a setting that can plot the most fuel efficient route to a destination, taking into account inclines and traffic density.

As a result of all these features, the A1 Sportback is remarkably economical, returning a hugely impressive 72.4mpg combined. The car is extremely clean, too, emitting a mere 92g/km of CO2. And it should be a lot of fun to drive thanks to the inclusion of Audi’s Magnetic Ride system, which was seen for the first time on the R8.

The hi-tech equipment continues inside. While the three-door concept featured a plug-in iPhone-style set-up which started the car and allowed a range of settings to be adjusted, the Sportback accepts a variety of mobiles.

Owners simply download some software from Audi, which allows their phone to ‘talk’ to the car. It can then be used to start the engine and remotely change temperature, warming up the interior on cold days.

When the A1 officially arrives in 2010, buyers can expect a wide range of engines – including the latest small-capacity turbo petrols and super-clean diesels.

An Audi spokesman told Auto Express that a hybrid version “would be available at some point down the line”. Prices should start from around £15,000.

Audi "Travolution" allows Drivers to make all Stoplights

audi travolution wagon car

If there is anything that is truly going to bailout the worldwide auto industry, it will be technology.

Now comes word that Volkswagen's luxury brand Audi is working on a system that allows the car to communicate with traffic signals. Called "Travolution", the system tells drivers how fast to drive so that they can make the lights rather than stopping for red lights. Imagine to be able to drive from one end of a city to the other making every green light?

Specially equipped Audi A5s and A6s are testing a system in the town in which Audi is based, Ingolstadt, Germany.

No news yet when the system will go into production, if ever. Our take? We're glad that safety is again becoming a priority instead of horsepower.

Audi customizes Dashboards via Futuremark

audi interior dash custom.jpg

Audi is taking the concept of car eye candy to the finest detail.

Partnering up with Futuremark, the German luxury automaker has produced a fully customizable and actively changing in-dash GPS and HUD system. Asides from looking sleek as silver on ice, the display carries everything you need to see the way you want to see it.

Audi plans on showcasing this technology at the upcoming NVISION Technology Show in San Jose, CA. Once the testing is done, Audi will begin implementing this technology into their lineup, starting with SUVs.

Our take? Now this is a real geek attraction: The power of choice.

Players maneuver the course and race against the clock to beat their own personal best time. The application is now available free of charge on Apple’s iPhone Application Store. The 2009 Audi A4 will be available in Audi dealerships nationwide starting in September of 2008.

“The iPhone is an ideal platform to help introduce the entirely new Audi A4 to the public,” said Scott Keogh, chief marketing officer, Audi of America. “Audi customers are smart, sophisticated and technologically savvy. As a brand, we are committed to progress and innovation at every turn. We’re very excited to be the first automotive manufacturer to connect with our audience through the iPhone.”

Located in Denver, Factory Design Labs, Audi’s interactive agency of record designed the game in just two weeks.

“Innovation is the foundation of the Audi brand,” said Scott Mellin, CEO of Factory Design Labs. “This is the first application by an automotive OEM, but it’s also reinventing the shopping experience. In combination with the A4 iPhone web site, this is the first viable mobile marketing solution in the automotive space. Importantly, it is also a unique way to engage the consumer with the DNA of the Audi brand.”

To support the application and the launch of the A4, Audi has also created an A4 iPhone experience web site that allows users to experience and learn more about the entirely new Audi A4. Customers who visit truthinengineering.com/a4/iphone on their iPhone will find a unique interface and content on the A4, specialized videos, wallpapers, an exterior color customizer, a dealer locator and link to install the Audi A4 Challenge application.

You mean the over-hyped movie where Megan Foxx was the only reason to see it? Yeah, that’s the one.

According to an anonymous source, they’ve been shooting Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen at the Long Beach docks in California and the photos contain an Audi R8.

Megan Fox...we mean, Transformers fans rejoice!

Audi Q5 Gets Hybrid Title from Q7

Volkswagen luxury brand Audi had plans of making a hybrid vehicle of its full-sized Q7 SUV

News is now the company has decided to reduce the size of the projected vehicle to create the Q5.

The new battery is still under development. Audi is said to have made the change because it believes smaller vehicles are more sensible. Also, its hybrid system can easily be adapted for its A4 and A5 sedans.

No official schedule has been announced for the release of the Q5, but it is being reported that the date will be 2010. Typical. Our take? 2012 at the earliest.

Audi US News website provides round-the-clock coverage

audi us news website

HERNDON, Va., Aug. 11, 2008 – Audi of America has launched www.audiusanews.com - an all-new media website designed to provide journalists, bloggers and broadcasters the most current and relevant content to meet the demands of the 24/7 news cycle.

As of August 11, all visitors to Audi of America’s outgoing media site will be automatically redirected to www.audiusanews.com, where only approved and logged-on members of the media may download high-resolution Audi images, access broadcast quality video, receive email news alerts and enjoy future site features. Audi invites all members of the press to re-register or create a new media profile by clicking www.audiusanews.com/register and complete the brief credentials form. Audi Communications will respond to all registration requests within one business day.

The urgency of today’s virtually nonstop deadline pressure was the driving force behind www.audiusanews.com and its robust, yet straightforward user interface.

“When we talked to journalists we heard the message loud and clear,” said Jeff Kuhlman, Chief Communications Officer, Audi of America. “They want uncluttered access to exactly the information they need with the minimal amount of searching to make their deadlines. I think they’ll find it at AudiUSANews.com.”

The site delivers critical data in multiple, logically related locations, with formatting options for downloading press releases; high, medium and low resolution photos; press kits and other documents. Past visitors to Audi AG’s media site www.audi-mediaservices.com and to the U.S. consumer site www.audiusa.com will notice Audi’s brand consistency is now extended to the look and feel of the new media site.

To simplify information gathering, every Audi model sold in the United States has been assigned a menu channel, which is conveniently found by mousing over the top navigation bar. Each channel houses the most recent press releases and photos for that particular model, but also includes a press kit containing product specifications, dimensions and pricing information.

High-quality video of Audi models, Motorsport, Audi heritage and other events can be found under the Videos channel. An enhanced archive of Audi of America images spanning back to the early 1970s is another upcoming feature of the site.

“As the Audi of America product line reflects, we’re obsessed with technology and improvement through innovation,” said Christian Bokich, Manager-Midwest and Product/Technology/Motorsports Public Relations “This equally applies to how we deliver information to journalists.”

HERNDON, Va. – Audi of America today released pricing for two of its newest entries, the 2009 model year Audi A4 sedan and A4 Avant. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price for the A4 sedan will start at $32,700, while MSRP for the A4 Avant will start at $34,500.

“The combination of efficiency, power, performance and design make the A4 the new segment standard,” said Johan de Nysschen, executive vice president, Audi of America. “These are all-new models with added standard features versus the previous generation. And the A4, when equipped with the all-new 2.0TFSI engine and quattro all-wheel-drive system, delivers better fuel economy and acceleration than the key competitors in this segment.”

Audi will begin delivery of customer orders in September 2008, but de Nysschen said that some dealers will have vehicles available for consumer test drives as early as the week of August 10th.

Blake Strong, dealer principal of Strong Audi in Salt Lake City and Audi dealer council chairman, noted that dealers have seen considerable interest in the coming A4 launch.

“I started getting calls early this year,” said Strong, “especially after the A4 hit the auto show circuit and photos started to appear. Consumer interest increased as fuel prices rose. The new 2.0 TFSI is a great engine. Add the new engine to the beautiful design and incredible vehicle technology and I feel that this is the perfect car for the time.”

The Audi A4 sedan can be equipped with either the all-new 2.0 TFSI 4-cylinder engine or the 3.2 FSI V6 engine. The 2.0 TFSI engine can be configured for front-wheel drive or with Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system. The 3.2 FSI is offered exclusively in the sedan and with the quattro all-wheel-drive system and a 6-speed Tiptronic transmission. The A4 Avant will be equipped with the 2.0 TFSI engine and the quattro all-wheel-drive system.

New for 2009, the 2.0 TFSI engine features more horsepower (211 hp) and significantly more torque (258 lb.-ft.) than the engine it replaces. Rated at 21 miles per gallon city and 27 mpg highway, the 2.0 TFSI engine delivers better fuel economy, and when compared to the all-wheel-drive versions, better 0-to-60 miles per hour acceleration than the key German and Asian competitors in the segment.
