Both pundits and analyst say it will take a while before fuel cell vehicles make their impact on the auto market. Well, companies like Ford continue to push to make these vehicles viable sooner than most expect. The automaker has been working on 30 Ford Focus fuel cell prototype vehicles for about 36 months.
Recently it announced has extended the program for another 24 months. The extension will allow Ford to collect more real world-testing data. The info will then be used to construct the next generation of fuel cell vehicles.
The program is in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy.
Our take? We wonder if Ford's also looking into the supply-side of the equation, i.e., service stations providing hydrogen. If not, then we don't see the research at this time as more useless waste of money.
