Way back when, Mazda was the first -- and is now the only -- car manufacturer to offer a rotary engine. The company announced that the design of the rotary engine makes it well suited to be powered by hydrogen as a combustible fuel.
Mazda has already built hydrogen powered RX8s and Mazda5s. Both are currently being tested.
As a result, execs with Mazda are saying that the car company will be developing a hydrogen powered rotary engine but it won’t be in production for at least five years.
Our take? Nice idea, but Mazda is quite mum about who'll build the fueling stations.
