Well, if you have ever been asked that question in your car, we are pretty sure you weren’t driving a brand new Infiniti FX SUV. The recently redesigned luxury crossover now comes equipped with a Plasmacluser Filtration system that weeds out any offending odors inside your car.
The system ionizes and then deionizes the air within the cabin to ensure a sweet smelling automobile. What does that mean exactly? We aren’t sure, either.
According to a report in Kicking Tires, the system has two modes of operation. In Clean Mode, the system emits ions that attack mold spores and other particles. In Ion Mode, the system floods the interior with negative ions to replicate an environment full of crisp, clean air. What will they think of next? An ejector seat for that carpool friend who never wears deodorant?
In addition to appealing to the germaphobe in all of us, the system should be a boon for people with allergy problems. Anyone who is allergic to the blooming spring foliage can no doubt see the benefit of having an allergen free oasis inside your impervious crossover/Neiman Marcus bi-annual sale carry all.
This system has the paw prints of the French all over it. Nissan is, after all, majority owned by Renault. French rivals Peugeot/Citroen have a similar olfactory repair system available on the majority of their models. Only theirs is a less hi-tech system that sprays inter-changeable scents into the cabin at the whim of the driver. It isn’t automatic like the Infiniti system, the driver just presses a button in order to be surrounded by the scent of jasmine or lavender.
What with the huge amount of money people spend every year on products like Febreeze that remove allergens and other undesired smells, we are surprised that this is the first vehicle equipped with such a system. In view of that, the new Infiniti FX Plasmacluser Filtration system has the sweet smell of success written all over it.
