Audi A1 Loses Its Top

Not even in production yet, Audi has is already set to take the wraps of a convertible version of its next version of its MINI-sized small car.

The car would provide Audi a direct competitor to the MINI convertible, and broaden the appeal of its most inexpensive offering. Moving in the opposite direction from BMW's compact brand, the A1 expected to forgo rear seating, which would've been compromised anyway (like a MINI) in order to allow space for top to conceal itself fully while providing a much more cohesive top down appearance.

The A1 is expected to be front drive only. Audi is expected to offer both its 150 horsepower and 102 horsepower diesel motors in the car. Also a possibility is a 200 horsepower or more John Cooper Works rivaling the S1.

Expected to be unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show. Our Take? The A1 convertible should be the pick of the bunch, and the one with the best chance of besting the MINI.
